Rayza Santiago (Webster Schroeder/Webster, N.Y.) netted both Heron goals to lift the soccer team past DeSales 2-1 this afternoon. William Smith improves its undefeated record to 6-0-0, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-4-1 overall.
Santiago netted her first goal in the 22nd minute. After a William Smith corner kick, the ball failed to be cleared out of the box, and Santiago put the loose ball into the back of the net. The Herons took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
First-year Bulldog Jill Yetter spoiled the Herons’ bid for their fourth shutout of the season, netting the host’s lone goal in the 83rd minute. A few minutes later Santiago struck again on a penalty kick after DeSales was called on a handball in the box with 2:10 left on the clock, lifting the Herons to the 2-1 win.

Alex Chase (Bosque School/Albuquerque, N.M.) collected three saves and her first win of the season, while counterpart Katie Halpin stopped 15 Heron shots.
William Smith out shot the Bulldogs 24-7, and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Herons, currently ranked 24th in the nation, will be in action again on Sept. 21, when they host No. 12 Union in the Liberty League opener for both teams at 4 p.m.
