Herons handle Hamilton, remain unbeaten

Box Score CLINTON, N.Y.—The 12th-ranked William Smith College field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 2-0 Liberty League win at Hamilton this afternoon. Junior goalie Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) earned her second shutout of the season with six saves.

Junior Katie Mancuso (Harpursville/Port Crane, N.Y.) netted her first goal of the season in the match’s 31st minute to give the Herons (6-0, 2-0 Liberty) all of the offense they would need. First-year Brittany Furlong (Cazenovia/Cazenovia, N.Y.) added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute off an assist from senior Brittney Paye (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.).

Hamilton goalie Courtney DeMaria did well to keep the score so close, finishing the contest with 15 saves.

William Smith outshot its host 27-13 and held a 9-4 advantage on penalty corners.

The Herons are back in action on Sept. 26, when they travel to Fauver Stadium for a conference showdown with Rochester at 7 p.m.
