Van Dellon, Statesmen blank Hamilton

Box Score CLINTON, N.Y.--The 22nd-ranked Hobart soccer team earned a Liberty League victory with a 2-0 decision at Hamilton this afternoon. Junior Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) posted his third shutout of the season with four saves.

The Statesmen (7-1-1, 1-1-1) got all the offense they would need off a corner kick in the 38th minute. Sophomore Matt Geswell (Carmel/Patterson, N.Y.) headed in the service of junior Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany).

Hobart didn't get some breathing room until the final minute of the match, when sophomore Grant Morrison (Gleniffer/Paisley, Scotland) scored off an assist from first-year Kevin McCarthy (Ocean City/Seaville, N.J.).

Anthony Carello made six saves in goal for Hamilton (3-2-2, 1-2-0).

The Statesmen finished the match with a slim margin in shots (15-13) and corner kicks (3-2).

Hobart is back in action on Oct. 5, when the Statesmen host Rensselaer. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Cozzens Field.
