Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The sixth-ranked William Smith College soccer team tied 11th-ranked Hamilton College 1-1 in double-overtime action on Cozzens field this afternoon. After a battle of the two remaining unbeaten Liberty League teams, the Herons hold an 8-0-1 overall record and are 2-0-1 in the league, while the Continentals move to 7-0-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Katelyn Tyson (Leland/San Jose, Calif.) was responsible for the lone Heron tally. Senior Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) sent a cross to the head of first-year Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.), who drew the goalkeeper out and deflected the ball off a defender and to Tyson. Tyson netted the goal from seven yards out in the 35th minute, giving William Smith a 1-0 lead, which it carried into the half.

The Continentals’ goal came in the 64th minute, from the foot of junior Erica Dressler (Miss Porter’s School/Farmington, Conn.). Dressler, along with senior Kim Bauer (Concord-Carlisle/Concord, Mass.) peppered first-year Heron goalkeeper Alice Binns (Beaver Country Day/Boston, Mass.) with three shots apiece throughout the contest.

In the 105th minute, Naspany dribbled down the side on a breakaway, and then crossed the ball to Burnett-Kurie for a one-on-one chance with Continental goalkeeper Caitlin McGilley (The Lawrenceville School/Northfield, N.J.). Burnett-Kurie’s shot to win the game narrowly missed the goal, deflecting off the crossbar.

The Herons out shot their visitors 21-20, but the Continentals held a 10-3 advantage on corner kick opportunities.

Binns finished with four saves for William Smith, while McGilley stopped seven shots for Hamilton.

The Herons will be in action again on Oct. 5, when they travel to Rensselear for a Liberty League match at 3 p.m.
