Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The ninth-ranked William Smith College field hockey team won its eighth consecutive game, 8-0, sending Elmira College to its sixth consecutive loss this afternoon. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) led the offensive explosion with three goals.
William Smith improved to 8-0, while Elmira falls to 1-6. The Soaring Eagles failed to score for the fifth straight game, extending their scoreless streak to 374 minutes, 30 seconds.
In the seventh minute, Hamilton opened the scoring with a flip shot off a penalty corner set up by juniors
Jamie Tucciarone (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) and
Kelsey Landahl (Pioneer/Delevan, N.Y.). Sophomore
Janelle Walkley (Tioga/Tioga Center, N.Y.) doubled the lead in the 12th minute, followed three minutes later by a score off the stick of senior
Brittney Paye (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.). Hamilton closed out the first half scoring in the 18th minute.
After the break, Paye, Hamilton, and Landahl netted goals to start the second half. First-year
Sarah Gall (Red Hook/Germantown, N.Y.) closed out the scoring in the 56th minute, netting her first collegiate goal.
In goal, junior
Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) made just one save in 46 minutes, while first-year
Chelsea Snyder (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) did not face a shot down the stretch. Elmira starter Jalene McColloch (Millbrook School/Belleville, Ontario) stopped 13 of the 20 shots she faced before yielding to Allison Holsinger (North Caroline/Denton, Md.), who stopped two of three offerings from the Herons.
William Smith is back in action on Oct. 2, when the Herons visit Ithaca. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
