Heron hockey rolls over Lakers

Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y.-The ninth-ranked William Smith field hockey team posted its second shutout victory in as many tries with a 6-0 triumph over Oswego State today. Junior Kelsey Landahl (Pioneer/Delevan, N.Y.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) each scored twice to pace the Heron offense.

Junior Jamie Tucciarone (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) opened the scoring just 3:25 into the match. Landahl and Hamilton followed with scores before the contest was 11 minutes old. William Smith (2-0) carried the three-goal lead into halftime.

Landahl and Hamilton sandwiched goals around a tally by sophomore Janelle Walkley (Tioga/Tioga Center, N.Y.). Walkley's score came on a penalty stroke.

Junior goalie Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) made three saves in 51 minutes to earn the win, before first-year Chelsea Snyder (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) rang up four stops in the final 19 minutes.

The Herons are back in action on Sept. 15-16, when they host the annual Heron Invitational. William Smith will take on Oberlin in the opener on Saturday at 11 a.m.
