Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.-First-year Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) scored her first career goal and added an assist to lead the William Smith College soccer team past Gettysburg College 3-0 today in the opening game of the Heron Cup at Cozzens Field. The blanking extended the Heron defense's shutout streak to 234 minutes, 21 seconds.

Junior Rayza Santiago (Webster Schroeder/Webster, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 12th minute off a corner kick from sophomore Megan Stevens (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). Stevens' corner was deflected by a Gettysburg defender right to Santiago, who headed it into the back of the net for her first goal of the year.

William Smith (3-0) continued to pressure for the second goal and finally got it off the foot of Nasypany in the 44th minute. Nasypany received the ball and made three nifty moves in a row around defenders and found herself just inside the box where she shot the ball to the left of the diving Bullet goalkeeper and into the net.

Less than four minutes into the second half, the Herons extended their lead to three as sophomore Katelyn Tyson (Leland/San Jose, Calif.) scored her second goal of the year off an assist from Nasypany. Nasypany had the ball at the top of the box and tried to beat a defender one-on-one but, unlike before, the defender got a foot on the ball and deflected it right to Tyson at the right of the goal. Tyson one-touched the ball past the goalkeeper to round out the game's scoring.

William Smith controlled play for most of the game, outshooting the Bullets 13-2.

All three Heron goalkeepers saw action, with first-year starter Alice Binns (Beaver Country Day/Boston, Mass.) making the only save. Fellow first-year Alexandra Chase (Bosque School/Albuquerque, N.M.) and sophomore Libby Greene (Northview/Grand Rapids, Mich.) split time in the second half.

Gettysburg junior goalkeeper Danielle St. Pierre (Trinity/Londonderry, N.H.) made five saves in the loss.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, when they take on Elmira College at 2 p.m., while Gettysburg (1-2) will play the early game at 11 a.m. against 20th-ranked Union College.
