Box Score ELMIRA, N.Y.—Senior midfielder Tyler Webster (Acton-Boxboro/Acton, Mass.) scored twice to lead the seventh-ranked Hobart College soccer team past Elmira College this afternoon, 6-1. The Statesmen improve to 3-0-0 on the season, while the Soaring Eagles drop to 1-1-0.
Junior midfielder Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) scored in the 13th minute to put the Statesmen on the board. Eighteen minutes later, sophomore Grant Morrison (Gleniffer/Paisley, Scotland) set up Webster’s first tally, a hard shot from eight yards out. Hobart led 2-0 at the half.
Junior forward Dan Riso (Red Hook/Red Hook, N.Y.) netted the Statesmen’s third score, a wide-open shot right in front of the goal, while Webster scored his third goal of the season off a helper from first-year midfielder Preston Hirten (Staples/Westport, Conn.) in the 72nd minute.
Morrison and senior forward Greg Davidson (Union Springs/Cayuga, N.Y.) recorded insurance tallies for the Statesmen in the final 10 minutes of the game. Sophomore forward Troy Miller (Hartford/Granville, N.Y.) assisted on Morrison’s goal.
Junior goalkeeper Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) recorded four saves en route to his second win of the season. The Statesmen out shot their hosts 20-7.
Hobart will be in action again on Sept. 12, when it travels to Utica for a non-league contest at 4:30 p.m.
