Bruce nets 21 at Hamilton

Box Score CLINTON, N.Y.--Hobart first-year guard Mark Bruce (Fairport/Fairport, N.Y.) scored a season-high 21 points but Hamilton took the Liberty League men's basketball opener for both teams, 76-52. He shared game-high honors with an 8 of 12 shooting night from the floor, including a pair of threes.

The Statesmen (5-7, 0-1) shot just 30.8 percent from the floor and committed 20 turnovers, while the host Continentals (7-3, 1-0) connected on 41.1 percent from the floor and turned the ball over just eight times.

Hobart built a 10-6 lead five minutes into the contest, but Hamilton used an 8-0 run to claim its first lead of the night. A jumper by Bruce tied the score at 16-16 with 12:23 left in the first half. The Continentals then scored the next eight points and didn't trail again. A pair of Bruce free throws cut Hamilton's advantage to 27-23 with 5:28 remaining when the host went on an 11-0 run. The Continentals' lead remained in double-digits the rest of the game.

Senior forward John Grazioli (St. Anthony's/Melville, N.Y.) recorded 10 points and nine rebounds. First-year forward Adam Salzmann (Kingston/Connelly, N.Y.) blocked four shots and pulled down nine boards. Senior guard Rob Genovese (Deerfield Academy/Geneva, N.Y.) contributed seven points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Sophomore Joe Manns paced three Continentals in double digits with 21 points.

The Statesmen are back in action on Jan. 18, when they travel to Rensselaer. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
