Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The eighth-ranked Hobart College hockey team fell to fifth-ranked Manhattanville 4-1 tonight in an ECAC West contest at The Cooler. The Statesmen dropped to 13-4-0 overall and 3-4-0 in league play, while the Valiants improved to 12-3-1 and 4-2-0.
After a scoreless first period, Manhattanville got on the board 3 minutes, 28 seconds into the second. Zeke Hume (Osoyoos, B.C.) was responsible for the tally, assisted by Matt Piegza (Chicago, Ill.) and Niklas Berntsson (Gothenburg, Sweden).
The Statesmen answered just over a minute later, on a power-play goal from sophomore
Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.). Senior
Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.) and junior Andrew Brennan (Milford, Mass.) recorded helpers on Hobart’s only goal of the night. DeCroo’s tally was his team-leading 10th of the season.
Hume, Piegza, and Berntsson teamed up again later in the second stanza to give the Valiants a 2-1 lead heading into the second break. Berntsson had a hand in all four of the Valiants’ goals.
Despite four power play opportunities in the third period, the Statesmen could not recover. Manhattanville netted two more goals to ensure the 4-1 victory. Valiants Derek Lynden (Pickering, Ont.) and Joe DiCamillo (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded the tallies.
Hobart was 1-for-5 on the power play, while Manhattanville was 1-for-7.
Junior goalkeeper
Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) picked up 31 saves for the Statesmen. Valiant goalie Paul Reimer collected 35.
