Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team shot 68.4 percent from the floor in the second half to erase an 11-point halftime deficit on its way to a 58-42 Liberty League win over Skidmore. First-year guard Rob Estep (West York/York, Pa.) produced a season-high 24 points for the Statesmen.
Senior forward John Grazioli (St. Anthony’s/Melville, N.Y.) added 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while first-year guard Tim Llewellyn (West York/York, Pa.) narrowly missed a double-double as well, notching 14 points and eight assists.
Jeff Altimar led Skidmore with 13 points and Jonah Haviland-Markowitz had 10.
Senior forward Dan O’Grady (St. Dominics/East Norwich, N.Y.) scored his only basket of the game with 11:42 remaining in the first half to give Hobart (6-9, 1-3) a 14-7 lead. It was the last field goal the Statesmen netted in the session. The Thoroughbreds (6-9, 1-3) ended the half on a 19-1 run, taking a 26-15 lead into halftime.
Altimar connected on a layup to start the second half scoring, but then it was Skidmore’s turn to go stone cold. Eighteen unanswered points put Hobart back in front, 33-28. Estep tied the game with a traditional three-point play with 13:43 left.
Haviland-Markowitz ended the Thoroughbreds 10-minute scoring drought, but seven more unanswered points, including five from Estep, put the Statesmen lead into double digits. Estep finished the night 9-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc.
Skidmore made one last push to get back in the game. Altimar hit a three with four minutes remaining to make it a five-point game, 46-41, but Hobart ended the contest with a 12-1 push.
The Statesmen are back in action on Jan. 26, when they travel to Union for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
