Box Score GENESEO, N.Y.—The ninth-ranked Hobart College hockey team posted a gritty 3-1 victory over Geneseo State at the Wilson Ice Arena this afternoon. Sophomore
Bobby Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.) netted the game-winner at 13:08 of the third period.
Off a pass from first-year Kyle Whittaker (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Cahill skated through the neutral zone and down the left side of the Geneseo zone untouched, beating senior goalie Derek Jokic (Petersburg, Ontario) to snap a 1-1 tie. Sophomore defenseman
Jordan Zitoun (Irving, Texas) sealed the win with a short-handed (6-on-4) empty net goal shot from the Hobart blue line with 28 seconds remaining.
The Ice Knights came out firing in the first period, doubling up the Statesmen in shots (16-8), but it was Hobart that carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission thanks to first-year
Patrick Moriarty’s (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) power-play goal at 14:04. Classmates
Matthew Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Thomas Capalbo (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) earned the assists.
In the second period, Geneseo pulled even with a power-play goal of its own. Junior Kevin Galan (Salmon Arm, British Columbia) put home a rebound, assisted by classmates Casey Balog (Brockport, N.Y.) and Casey Smith (Fairport, N.Y.).
Hobart was 1-of-5 on the power play, while Geneseo was 1-of-8.

Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) was spectacular in goal for the Statesmen (11-2-0), stopping 32 shots, while Jokic recorded 27 stops for the Knights (5-10-0).
Hobart is back in action on Jan. 12, when the Statesmen travel to Curry. Faceoff with the Colonels is scheduled for 4:35 p.m.
