Union tops William Smith 3-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team suffered a 3-0 loss at Union in a Liberty League contest this afternoon. The loss drops the Herons' record to 8-3, 2-2 in the conference, while the Dutchwomen improve to 7-2, 2-2.

Union outshot William Smith 19-5, including 12-1 in the second half, and had a 9-2 advantage on penalty corners.

The Dutchwomen got their first goal in the 11th minute when Kelsey Powers batted home a rebound. Four minutes later, Molly Osborn made it a 2-0 game, an advantage the hosts carried into halftime.

Heron senior goalie Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) made one save before the intermission. Sophomore Chelsea Snyder (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) turned back 10 shots in relief in the second half.

Union managed a third goal in the 48th minute off the stick of Anne Hanson to close out the scoring. Dutchwomen goalie Liz Stanford made two saves for the shutout.

William Smith will be back in action on Oct. 11, when the No. 16 Herons visit No. 20 Skidmore. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Live Stats can be accessed on the Thoroughbreds' Web site.
