#7 Herons, Thoroughbreds play to scoreless draw

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The seventh-ranked William Smith College soccer team and Skidmore played to a scoreless double-overtime draw this afternoon on Wachenheim Field. The Herons move to 9-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Liberty League, while the Thoroughbreds now stand at 9-3-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in the league.

After an uneventful first half, William Smith had an opportunity to score in the 61st minute, but first-year defender Alyse DiCenzo's (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford, N.Y.) shot bounced off the crossbar, narrowly missing the goal.

Skidmore had a similar situation later in the second half, as a shot from Thoroughbred Rachel Sushner hit the crossbar and almost went into the goal before being collected by William Smith first-year goalie Amanda Davis (Roxbury/Succasunna, N.J.).

Sophomore forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) had another chance to put one on the board for William Smith in the first overtime period. She took a direct kick following a Skidmore foul, but Thoroughbred goalkeeper Meghan Sleezer made the save.

Skidmore out shot the Herons 12-8, while both teams each had two corner kick opportunities.

Davis finished with six saves in her fourth shutout of the year, while Sleezer finished with four stops.

William Smith will be back in action on Oct. 16, when it hosts Nazareth for a non-league match at 4 p.m.
