Box Score The sixth-ranked Hobart College soccer team tied Ithaca College 0-0 tonight on Cozzens Field. The match was called after just one overtime period due to darkness. The Statesmen now stand at 12-0-2 on the season, while the Bombers are 7-2-2 overall.
Junior forward
Dan Riso (Red Hook/Red Hook, N.Y.) had Hobart's best chance to score 33 minutes, 36 seconds into the contest. After pressuring the Bomber defense in their half of the field, Riso stole the ball and took it in for a one-on-one shot with Ithaca goalkeeper Andy Wilhelm. Wilhelm came out to defend the shot, and came up big with the save.
Ithaca nearly stopped the game from going into overtime in the 83rd minute when Ronny Basak-Smith sent a low cross in front of Hobart's goal, just missing the Bomber waiting in front to put it in.
Hobart senior forward
Tyler Webster (Acton Boxborough/Acton, Mass.) had an opportunity with 1:33 left in regulation, as he freed himself from a pack of Ithaca defenders to get a shot off, but it missed wide right.
Senior Statesmen goalkeeper
Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) picked up a key stop with just 16 seconds left in overtime. Bomber John Tarson took a hard shot from the top of the box, but Van Dellon reacted quickly, making the diving save to his right.
Hobart held a slight 13-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Van Dellon finished with four saves, while Wilhelm collected eight.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Oct. 18, when they travel to Oneonta for a non-conference match at 1 p.m.
