Schoeniger leads Statesmen past Oneonta

Box Score Hobart College senior Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) netted the game-winning goal in the fifth minute of overtime to lead the Statesmen soccer team past Oneonta 2-1 this afternoon. Sixth-ranked Hobart remains unbeaten on the season, improving to 13-0-2, while the Red Dragons fall to 9-5-1 on the season.

Thirty-two minutes and eight seconds into the contest, the Statesmen opened the scoring. First-year midfielder Michael Moulton (Providence Country Day/Coventry, R.I.) headed in a corner kick from senior midfielder Tyler Webster (Acton Boxborough/Acton, Mass.) to put Hobart up 1-0. The goal marked Moulton's first collegiate tally.

A few minutes into the second half, the Red Dragons scored on a corner kick of their own, as Matthew Brown found Matt Lindemann for the header that snuck past senior Statesmen goalie Pete Van Dellon (Webster/Webster, N.Y.).

After regulation ended in a 1-1 draw, Schoeniger ended the match at 94:54 with an unassisted shot from the top of the box that found its way just inside of the left post. The goal was Schoeniger's third of the year.

Hobart out shot Oneonta 15-6. Van Dellon finished with three saves, while Red Hawks' goalie Maxwell Siegelman collected four stops.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Oct. 25, when they travel to Rensselaer for a Liberty League match at 3 p.m.
