Heron field hockey falls at #8 Lebanon Valley

Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa.—The William Smith College field hockey team lost to eighth-ranked Lebanon Valley College 6-1 today. The loss drops the Herons' record to 8-6, while the Dutchmen improve to 13-2.

Lebanon Valley opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a goal by Danielle Blase. Alex Wolfe doubled the home team's lead about six minutes later.

William Smith got on the board in the 26th minute, courtesy of a penalty stroke. Junior Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) converted the opportunity into her team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Shelly Lobach scored at the end of the first half (29th minute) and at the start of the second half (38th minute) to squash any thoughts of a Heron comeback. LVC added two more second half goals to complete the day's scoring.

William Smith senior goalie Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) made nine saves on the 14 shots she faced in the first 39 minutes, 14 seconds of the match, while sophomore Chelsea Snyder (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) stopped six of the seven shots she saw in relief. Junior defender Katherine Hoering (Freeport/Brunswick, Maine) recorded a defensive save in support of DeKraker.

Caitlin Baro made five saves in goal to earn the win for the Dutchmen.

Following a four-match road trip, the Herons return to McCooey Field on Oct. 25, when they host St. Lawrence in a Liberty League matchup at 3 p.m.
