Box Score The sixth-ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated Oneonta State 4-0 this afternoon on Cozzens Field. The Herons improve to 10-1-3 overall, while the Red Dragons drop to 10-5-1 on the season.
William Smith first-year
Alyse DiCenzo (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford, N.Y.) put the Herons on the board with her first collegiate tally 26 minutes, 10 seconds into the match. She scored on a penalty kick after classmate
Kate Redmond (Bernard/Bernardsville, N.J.) was taken down in the box.
Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore forward
Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) gave William Smith a 2-0 lead with her first of two goals on the day. She got through the Oneonta defense on the left side of the goal, and her low cross deflected off a Red Dragon and into the right corner of the net.
Nasypany found the back of the net again in the 87th minute for her Liberty League-leading 12th goal of the year. She took a breakaway down the middle of the field for a one-on-one shot with Oneonta goalkeeper Kayla Murphy.
At 87:42, Redmond recorded her third goal of the season, on breakaway play that was very similar to Nasypany's just over a minute before.
William Smith first-year goalkeeper
Amanda Davis (Roxbury/Succasunna, N.J.) picked up her fifth shutout, while Murphy finished with four saves. Davis made a key play in the 22nd minute as Lindsay Brechbiel, the Red Dragon's leading scorer, got loose for a one-on-one chance. Davis came out to smother the ball before Brechbiel could get the shot off.
The Herons will be back in action on Oct. 25, when they host Rensselaer for a Liberty League match at 3 p.m.
