Bengals upset Statesmen in season opener

Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y.—The eighth-ranked Hobart College hockey team fell to Buffalo State tonight in its season opener, 4-0. The Statesmen now stand at 0-1-0 overall, while the Bengals improve to 1-2-0 with their first win of the season.

Buffalo started the scoring early in the first period, capitalizing on a power play just 5 minutes, 26 seconds into the game on a goal from Joe Curry. The Bengals went on to notch one in the second, from Kerry Barchan, and two more in the third, thanks to Cory Park and Nick Petriello. Petriello's tally was also on a power play.

Hobart out shot Buffalo 10-3 in the third period, but could not get past first-year goaltender Zach Grasley, who stopped all 28 shots he faced tonight. Hobart's senior goaltender Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) recorded 24 saves.

The Statesmen and Bengals will meet again tomorrow night, Oct. 25, in Geneva at 7 p.m. Fans unable to make it to The Cooler can follow along online with live stats.
