Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior
Tyler Webster (Acton Boxborough/Acton, Mass.) scored the only goal of the day to lift the sixth-ranked Statesmen soccer team over Liberty League foe Hamilton 1-0 this afternoon. Hobart remains undefeated on the season, improving to 11-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the league, while the Continentals fall to 5-3-0 and 1-2-0 in the Liberty League.
A midfielder, Webster tallied the eventual game-winning goal just 7 minutes, 36 seconds into the match. Senior forward
Dan Riso (Red Hook/Red Hook, N.Y.) recorded the assist, as he threaded a pass up the middle of the field to lead Webster to the goal.
Riso had many opportunities to score himself, taking five shots, but could not connect to increase the Statesmen's lead. Late in the second half Hobart had another opportunity to score when senior midfielder
Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) beat the Hamilton defense and sent a low pass across the front of the goal. The ball just missed the feet of Webster, who would have had an open shot on goal.
The Statesmen held a slight advantage in shots (22-16) and shots on goal (6-5). Hobart's senior goalkeeper
Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) collected five saves in his sixth shutout of the season, while Continental goalie Anthony Carello also picked up five stops.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Oct. 10, when they host Union in a Liberty League match at 4 p.m.
