Herons soar over RIT, 3-0

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Behind three first-half goals, the seventh-ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated RIT 3-0 this afternoon on RIT Field, improving to 8-1-1 on the season. The Tigers fell to 5-5-2 overall.

The Herons got the scoring started early, as sophomore forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) tallied her league-high ninth goal of the season just 4 minutes, 52 seconds into the match. She was assisted by first-year forward Kate Redmond (Bernard/Bernardsville, N.J.).

Nasypany went on to set up the second William Smith goal, which came in the 28th minute. She found first-year midfielder Chelsea England (Vestal/Apalachin, N.Y.) for the rookie's first collegiate goal.

William Smith found the back of the net once more at 38:41. This time it was first-year midfielder Sarah Tarantino (East Aurora/East Aurora, N.Y.) who scored the goal, marking her first collegiate tally as well.

Sophomore Heron goalkeeper Alex Chase (Bosque School/Albuquerque, N.M.) picked up two saves on the way to her sixth win of the season in net, while Tiger goalie Ashley Valenti collected six saves.

William Smith will be in action again on Oct. 10, when it travels to Union for a Liberty League contest at 4 p.m.
