#11 Statesmen ground Flying Dutchmen, 4-1

Box Score HERSHEY, Pa.—The 11th-ranked Hobart College hockey team downed Lebanon Valley 4-1 in ECAC West action tonight at Hershey Park Arena. The Statesmen improve to 5-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the league, while the Flying Dutchmen fall to 0-7-0 (0-3-0 ECAC West).

Junior Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.) led the Hobart offense with two goals, while sophomore Kyle Whitaker (Fort Wayne, Ind.) notched a goal and an assist, and first-year Anthony Scarpino (Meadville, Pa.) added two helpers.

DeCroo started the scoring 12 minutes, 55 seconds into the first period. He was assisted by Scarpino and sophomore Whitaker. 

Senior Andy Brennan (Milford, Mass.) put the Statesmen up 2-0 at 7:21 in the second period, slapping a hard shot from the point. He finished the play started by classmate Ryan Adler (Piscataway, N.J.) and sophomore Pat Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.).

Lebanon Valley answered, making it a one-goal game in the 17th minute of the second stanza. Nick Shultz, Brad Surdam, and Brian Dunford teamed up for the tally.

In the third period, it took Hobart less than five minutes to increase its lead. DeCroo registered his second goal of the game, and his fourth of the season, after being set up by junior Dan Miller (Massena, N.Y.) and Scarpino.

Whitaker lit the lamp for the first time this year in the 13th minute, giving the Statesmen the 4-1 advantage. Sophomore Matt Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and senior Jason Merritt (Chapel Hill, N.C.) recorded the assists.

Hobart outshot its host 53-23, and both teams were 0-for-7 on the power play.

Senior Statesman Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.) picked up 22 stops in net, while Flying Dutchman goalie Rich Drazin collected 49 saves.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Nov. 15, when they travel to Neumann for an ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
