Bonham leads #11 Hobart past #13 Neumann in OT

Box Score ASTON, Pa.—Hobart College junior Blake Bonham (Toronto, Ontario) netted three goals, including the last two of the game, to lead the 11th-ranked Statesmen hockey team past 13th-ranked Neumann 5-4 in overtime tonight. The Statesmen improve to 6-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the conference, while the while the Knights fall to 4-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the ECAC West.

Bonham scored the game-tying goal with 16 second left in regulation to send the game into overtime, then went on to tally the game-winner 2 minutes, 49 seconds into the extra period. Junior Aleksey Koval (Kiev, Ukraine) set up Bonham's equalizer, while sophomore Matt Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) assisted on game-winner.

Each team scored two goals in the first period. Statesman junior Jordan Zitoun (Irving, Texas) started things off at 8:01. Senior Andy Brennan (Milford, Mass.) and junior Bobby Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.) recorded the helpers on the power play goal.

Just two minutes later, Bonham increased Hobart's early lead to 2-0. He finished a play started by Brennan and senior Jason Merritt (Chapel Hill, N.C.).

Neumann answered with four straight goals. The Knights netted two to end the first period, scored the lone tally of the second, and began the third with a goal from Jesper Hultman at the 1:19 mark.

Down 4-2, the Statesmen began their comeback with less than four minutes left on the clock. Sophomores Pat Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Tom Capalbo (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) connected on a power play at 16:23 to cut Neumann's lead to one, and Bonham took over from there.

Senior Statesmen goalkeeper Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.) collected 29 saves, including three in overtime, while Ross MacKinnon stopped 27 for the Knights. Neumann held a slight 33-32 advantage in shots.

Hobart will be back in action on Nov. 21, when the Statesmen host fifth-ranked Elmira for an ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
