Box Score The Hobart College hockey team fell to ECAC West opponent Manhattanville 3-1 tonight at The Cooler. The 11th-ranked Statesmen fall to 9-4-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the league, while the Valiants improve to 5-2-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in ECAC West action.
Manhattanville tallied a goal in each period and held Hobart to just 23 shots on goal, while notching 43 of their own, to come out on top. Kevin Maresco scored two of the Valiants three goals to lead the visitors.
Maresco lit the lamp for his first goal of the game 15 minutes, 52 seconds into the first period, as he finished a play started by Chris Trafford and Dillon O'Hara. Midway through the second stanza, Matt Piegza netted the eventual game-winner, with help from Trafford and Arlen Marshall, and at 13:02 in the third period, Maresco scored again, giving the Valiants a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The Statesmen made a late-game push, pulling senior goalie
Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.) with 2:50 left on the clock, and tallying their lone goal of the game with an extra attacker at the 18:57 mark. Junior forward
Bobby Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.) recorded the goal, assisted by junior forwards
Blake Bonham (Toronto, Ontario) and
Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.).
Longo finished with 40 saves, while Sergiy Sorokolat picked up 22 stops for the Valiants.
Hobart will be back in action on Dec. 13, when the Statesmen host seventh-ranked Oswego at 4 p.m.
