Rochester sneaks past Hobart 73-67

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y.--The Hobart basketball team sank a season-high 12 three-pointers, but Rochester eked out a 73-67 victory in the Palestra tonight. Mark Bruce led four Statesmen in double digits with 19 points, connecting on 8-of-12 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc.

Tim Llewellyn hit five of his seven three-point tries for 15 points, while Rob Estep and Matt Pebole chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively. Adam Salzmann pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to help Hobart to a 34-32 advantage on the glass. The Statesmen (2-5) shot 43.3 percent from the floor, including 12-of-26 from long range.

Mike Chmielowiec led the Yellowjackets with 19 points, while Marcus Roberson contributed a double-double on 18 points and a game-high 10 boards. Rochester (6-2) shot 47.2 percent from the floor.

The difference in the box score was at the free throw line. The Yellowjackets converted 20-of-27 on the night, while the Statesmen got to the line just four times (making three).

Hobart led for most of the first half, carrying a 33-30 advantage into halftime. The Statesmen harrassed Rochester into shooting just 34.6 percent in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, Llewellyn drained a three with 12:29 remaining to give Hobart a 46-45 lead. Roberson answered with a layup at the other end of the floor to put the Yellowjackets in front for good. Rochester stretched its lead to as many as eight before the Statesmen trimmed their deficit to just two, twice in the final two minutes. Each time Hobart closed to within a single possession however, countered with points at the other end of the floor.
