Statesmen shutout Flying Dutchmen

Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa.—The 10th-ranked Hobart College hockey team shutout Lebanon Valley College 8-0 in ECAC West action tonight. The Statesmen improve to 14-5-0 overall and 4-5-0 in league play, while the Flying Dutchmen drop to 1-17-1, and 0-10-0.

Senior Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) and sophomore Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.) accounted for half of Hobart’s goals, each netting two. DeCroo also added two assists on the night, while junior Andrew Brennan (Milford, Mass.) chipped in with three helpers.

The Statesmen lit the lamp five times in the first period, and never looked back. First-year Kyle Whitaker (Fort Wayne, Ind.) tallied first, and ended up with the game-winning shot. DeCroo, junior Jason Merritt (Chapel Hill, N.C.), first-year Daniel Organ (Simi, Calif.), and senior Ted Brzek (Duxbury, Mass.) all followed suit, giving the visitors a 5-0 lead at the first break.

Cibelli scored 9 minutes, 15 seconds into the second stanza, followed just over a minute later by DeCroo. DeCroo’s second tally of the game was shorthanded, his fourth of the year. He now ranks second in Division III in that category. Cibelli went on to score the Statesmen’s lone goal of the third period.

Junior Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) collected 19 saves in his second shutout of the winter. He owns a 10-4-0 mark in net.

Hobart will face off against Lebanon Valley again tomorrow afternoon. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
