#16 William Smith sails over Clarkson

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The 16th-ranked William Smith College basketball team extended its winning streak to 12, downing Clarkson University 91-50 in Liberty League action tonight. The Herons, who never trailed in tonight’s contest, improved to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in league play, while the Golden Knights dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Junior Latasha Coney (Lyons/Lyons, N.Y.) led William Smith with a career-high 16 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. Senior Stephanie Czajkowski (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse, N.Y.) notched 12 points a game-high eight boards, while graduate student Paula Foote (Sidney/Sidney, N.Y.) added 12 of her own. First-year Mollie Danahy (Troy/Troy, N.Y.) recorded 11 and picked three steals, while classmate Kim Shorb (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and sophomore Erin Cunningham (Morris Knolls/Rockaway, N.J.) each contributed 10 points. Cunningham pulled down six rebounds, and Shorb’s 10-point performance marked a career-high for her as well.

For the Golden Knights, DeAndra Hebert (Heuvelton, N.Y.) led the way with 12 points. Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Katie Goldberg (Stowe, Vt.) each tallied 10 points. Sierra Noles (Averill Park, N.Y.) led Clarkson on the boards with five caroms.

The Herons started the game with an 11-1 run, capped by a three-pointer from Foote. Sparked by a bucket from Hebert, the Golden Knights answered with a 10-2 run of their own, cutting their deficit to 13-11 with 13 minutes, 48 seconds left in the half.

William Smith kept picking away, and closed out the first stanza with a 24-4 dash. Coney scored five of her 16 in the final 2:13 of the first half. The Herons held a 50-25 lead at halftime.

After the break, the hosts continued to build on their lead, and did not allow the Golden Knights back into the game. Shorb led the charge, netting all of her points in the second period.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 2 when it hosts Liberty League rival St. Lawrence at 2 p.m. in Bristol Gym. Fans unable to attend the game can watch the game live at ECAC.tv, or follow along with live stats.
