Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The 10th-ranked Hobart College hockey team handed No. 2 Elmira College its second loss of the season tonight, 3-1 at The Cooler. The Statesmen improve to 17-6-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the ECAC West, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 18-2-4 on the season and 10-2-2 in the league.
After nearly 50 minutes of hard-fought scoreless action, Hobart finally slipped a shot past Elmira goalkeeper Casey Tuttle (Chelsea, Maine). First-year
Matthew Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) tallied his 12th goal of the season 9 minutes, 43 seconds into the third period. Classmate Tom Capalbo (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and junior
Bryant Harris (Plainfield, N.H.) assisted on the first score of the game.
With momentum in their favor, the Statesmen lit the lamp again less than three minutes later, seizing a 2-0 lead with 7:52 left on the clock. This time it was Harris with the tally, assisted by Capalbo and first-year
Patrick Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.).
The Soaring Eagles made a late surge, scoring their lone goal of the contest with 1:01 left to play. First-year Karl Linden (Stockholm, Sweden) notched the power-play goal to cut his team’s deficit to 2-1.
Capalbo tallied Hobart’s third goal on Elmira’s vacant net with 29 ticks on the clock to insure the Statesmen victory. Moriarty and senior Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded the helpers.
Hobart held a slight 40-38 advantage in total shots, outshooting the Soaring Eagles in both the second (17-14) and third (17-12) periods. Elmira was 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Statesmen were 0-for-4.

Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) collected 37 saves en route to his 13th win of the season. Tuttle finished with 37 saves as well.
