Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The 10th-ranked Hobart College hockey team tied No. 2 Elmira College 3-3 in overtime in ECAC West action tonight at The Cooler. The Statesmen end the regular season with a 17-6-2 overall record and a 7-6-2 ECAC West mark, while the Soaring Eagles move to 18-2-5 on the season, 10-2-3 in the league.
In the first period, Hobart scored twice in a span of 13 seconds to take a 2-0 lead. Junior Andrew Brennan (Milford, Mass.) tallied his first goal of the season on a power play 11 minutes, 26 seconds into the game. Junior
Ryan Adler (Piscataway, N.J.) and senior Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded the assists.
At the 11:39 mark, sophomore
Drew Wadsworth (Arlington, Va.) lit the lamp again for the Statesmen, set up by classmates
Blake Bonham (Toronto, Ontario) and
Aleksey Koval (Kiev, Ukraine).
Elmira answered with a man-up tally of its own before the period was over. Rick Schrank (Newmarket, Ontario) scored with 4:25 remaining to cut the visitors’ deficit to 2-1 at the break.
Rusty Masters (Grafton, Ontario) evened the game at 2-all midway through the second period, as the Soaring Eagles outshot the Statesmen 14-8 in the stanza. The teams entered the second intermission deadlocked at 2-2.
Cibelli found Adler for the Statesmen’s third goal of the night 4:31 into the third period. The Soaring Eagles responded at 10:11, as Jan Velich (Pardubice, Czech Republic) notched the game-tying power-play goal. He was assisted by Nicolas Dumoulin (Prevost, Quebec) and Greg Moore (Chateauguay, Quebec).
Elmira capitalized on 2-of-7 power-play opportunities, while Hobart was 1-for-8. The Soaring Eagles also held a 35-25 advantage in total shots.
Junior Statesmen goalkeeper
Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) collected 32 saves on the night, while counterpart Casey Tuttle (Chelsea, Maine) picked up 22 saves.
The ECAC West Tournament pairings will be announced Sunday, Feb. 24, at noon on the
ECAC West Web site. The first round of the tournament will take place Feb. 27.
