Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The 14th-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team defeated Vassar College 13-12 in double-overtime this afternoon, in the first Liberty League contest for both teams. Junior
Nina Sperry (Daniel Hand/Madison, Conn.) scored the sudden victory goal in the third overtime stanza, helping the Herons improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Liberty League. The Brewers fall to 4-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

Rachel Stahl (Charles W. Baker/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) led the Herons with three goals and an assist, while sophomore
Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) tallied two goals and a helper. Junior
Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore
Brittany Callaghan (St. Luke’s School/Armonk, N.Y.) each netted two goals for William Smith, with sophomore
Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Greenwich, Conn.) adding a goal and two assists.
For the Brewers, Christine Eaccarino scored four times and notched an assist, while Sarah Warner, Katama Martellucci, and Christine Castellan each scored twice.
William Smith led throughout the first half, but never by more than three goals, and held a 6-4 advantage at the break.
Vassar came out firing in the second half. The Brewers took control, going on an 8-1 scoring run over the first 15 minutes, and held a 12-7 lead with 14 minutes, 20 seconds remaining in regulation.
Callaghan stopped the hosts’ scoring frenzy with her first goal of the day at 13:18, cutting William Smith’s deficit to 12-8. From there, the Herons did not allow the Brewers to score again. Fitzgerald, Stahl, and Parnell all found the back of the net before Callaghan scored her second goal with just 43 seconds left, tying the game at 12-all and forcing the game into overtime.
After the six-minute overtime period, Sperry snuck the unassisted game-winner past Vassar’s goalkeeper, Arial Nelson.

Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) collected 10 saves en route to her second win of the season, while Nelson finished with 19 stops.
The Herons outshot Vassar 36-26, and, thanks to Goodkind and junior
Torie Allen (Governor Dummer Academy/Dedham, Mass.) each picking up six, held a slight 32-20 advantage in ground balls.
