Box Score TROY, N.Y.—The William Smith College lacrosse team defeated Liberty League opponent Rensselaer 15-10 this afternoon, remaining unbeaten with a 5-0 overall record and a 2-0 Liberty League mark. The Red Hawks fell to 5-2 on the season and 0-1 in the conference. This is the first time since 2002 that the Herons have won their first five games.

Rachel Stahl (Charles W. Baker/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) led the William Smith offense with four goals, while classmate
Sarah Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.), and sophomores
Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.),
Brittany Callaghan (St. Luke’s School/Armonk, N.Y.), and
Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Greenwich, Conn.) each tallied twice.
Stephanie Caouette led the Red Hawks with three goals, while Sam Fennessey added two goals and an assist. Morgan Wahl also scored twice for RPI.
The Herons struck first, as Stahl opened the scoring just 3 minutes, 17 seconds into the game, set up by junior
Nina Sperry (Daniel Hand/Madison, Conn.). Davidson found the back of the net with 19:38 remaining in the first half, to put William Smith up 2-0.
The teams traded goals for the remainder of the stanza. Rensselaer evened the game at 5-all, after a Caouette tally at the 4:13 mark, but Stahl, Callaghan, and Fitzgerald would all score for the Herons in the final 3:21, to give William Smith an 8-5 advantage at the break.
The Red Hawks needed less than four minutes at the start of the second period to tie the game again at 8-8.
Fitzgerald answered, netting her second goal of the day with 20:17 left to play, sparking a 7-0 Heron run and putting the visitors in front for good. First-year
Kara Grogan (Gunnery School/West Simsbury, Conn.) capped the run with her first collegiate tally at the 3:17 mark.

Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) earned her third win in goal, recording six saves. RPI’s Emily Perkins collected four.
The 14th-ranked Herons will host 18th-ranked Cortland in their home opener on April 1 at 5 p.m.
