CORTLAND, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team improved its record to 9-5 on the season, after blanking SUNY Cortland 9-0 this afternoon. The Red Dragons dropped to 2-9 overall.
Junior
Chelsea Rauck (Columbus School for Girls/Bexley, Ohio) led the Herons with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Meg Cole at first singles. She went on to join sophomore
Shari Damon (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) for an 8-5 win at first doubles. Damon also recorded a win at third singles, 6-2, 6-0 over Dayna Brent.
At No. 2 singles, William Smith first-year
Amanda Slack (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) downed Amanda McElroy 6-3, 6-1, while her sister,
Melissa Slack (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine), defeated Merchon Brower 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. The two Herons teamed up for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles as well.
First-year Heron
Gaby Berkman (Champlain Valley Union/Shelburne, Vt.) improved her individual record to a team-best 13-2 with a win at fifth singles, while senior
Erinn Cain (Pal-Mac/Palmyra, N.Y.) won at No. 6 singles. Cain and sophomore
Meredith Levenson (Andover/Andover, Mass.) defeated Jennifer Carlisi and Katie Freeman at third doubles to round out the day.
