Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y.--The Hobart College lacrosse team ended Canisius' school record eight-game winning streak with a dominating defensive effort. The Golden Griffins were held more than seven goals below their season average in the 10-3 loss to the Statesmen.

Sophomore goalie Max Silberlicht allowed just two goals, while recording 11 stops in 57 minutes of action to earn the win, while senior defenseman Rafe Mattingly limited Griffins' leading scorer Nick LoCoco to just a single goal. The first-year began the game second in the nation in assists.

First-year Alex Caton and junior Matt Smalley also played well defensively, leading the Statesmen with four and three ground balls, respectively.

At the other end of the field, senior Jamie Kirk posted a game-high four points (2-2), while junior Jeff Colburn chipped in three (2-1).

The game got off to an ominous start for the Statesmen, as Canisius won the opening faceoff and needed just seven seconds to open the night's scoring.

Senior Daryl Veltman pulled Hobart even with 5:51 to go in the opening frame, burying a feed from Kirk. Thirty-five seconds later, sophomore Mike Lazore sent a low shot past the keeper for a 2-1 lead. Kirk closed out the first quarter scoring off an assist from Veltman.

Defense ruled for most of the second quarter, but senior Nick Currie and sophomore Kevin Curtin scored in the final three minutes to send the Statesmen into the break with a 5-1 lead.

Hobart extended its run to seven unanswered goals with the first two tallies of the third quarter. Colburn, set up by Kirk, scored on the man-advantage midway through the frame. The assist gives Kirk 61 for his career, passing Mark Darcangelo '82 for 16th place on the all-time list.

Colburn set up sophomore Mike Suits three minutes later to make it 7-1 Statesmen.

LoCoco finally ended the Griffins' scoring drought with 2:10 left in the third quarter, but it was too little too late.

Kirk and Colburn scored to start the fourth quarter, while Buffalo native first-year Mike White closed the night's scoring with 40 seconds left.

With the win, Hobart improves to 7-5 on the season, while improving to 9-0 all-time against Canisius. The loss drops the Golden Griffins to 8-4.

The Statesmen return home for their next contest, hosting No. 15 Loyola on April 26. Faceoff at Boswell Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
