Webster nets game-winner in overtime

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Senior midfielder Tyler Webster (Acton Boxboro/Acton, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Hobart College soccer team over Nazareth 1-0 today, in the season opener for both teams. The Statesmen move to 1-0-0 on the young season, while the Golden Flyers fall to 0-1-0.

Hobart, ranked 20th in the NSCAA's preseason poll, dominated play, outshooting Nazareth 23-5 in the first game of the Doug May Classic. The Golden Flyers' first-year goalie Ryan Platt did an excellent job of holding off the Statesmen, collecting 10 saves on the day.

Raymond Touchstone had Nazareth's best opportunity to score. His header in the seventh minute bounced off the crossbar, narrowly missing the goal.

After just over 93 minutes of hard-fought action, first-year midfielder Clancy Purcell (Shelton/Shelton, Conn.) booted a corner kick that found Webster's foot. Webster finally got a shot past Platt for the game-winner.

Hobart's senior goalkeeper Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) stopped two shots to earn the shutout.

The Statesmen will be in action again tomorrow, Aug. 31, as they take on RIT at 1:30 p.m
