Heron field hockey rolls over Oswego 5-0

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The 11th-ranked William Smith College field hockey team improved to 3-0 with a dominating 5-0 victory over Oswego State on McCooey Field this afternoon. The Herons had five different goal scorers in the contest, outshooting the Lakers 47-7.

First-year Kiersten Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 24th minute with an unassisted tally. Sophomore Sarah Gall (Red Hook/Germantown, N.Y.) made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute with another unassisted score. Classmate Brittany Furlong (Cazenovia/Cazenovia, N.Y.), assisted by senior Leila Higgins (Groton School/Peapack, N.J.), made it 3-0 just 55 seconds before halftime.

Senior Jamie Tucciarone (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) and sophomore Emily Atwan (Pomfret School/Milton, Mass.) netted second half markers for William Smith (3-0).

Senior goalie Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) made all three Heron saves in 64 minutes of action, while sophomore Jaime Scharfe (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) recorded 19 saves for Oswego (1-4).

William Smith is back in action on Sept. 17, when the Herons host Ithaca at 5 p.m. On the same day, the Lakers will head to Nazareth for a 4 p.m. contest.
