#7 Hobart handles #24 Rochester

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The seventh-ranked Hobart College soccer team defeated 24th-ranked Rochester 3-0 this afternoon at Fauver Stadium. The Statesmen improve their undefeated record to 7-0-0 overall, while the Yellowjackets suffer their first loss of the season, and fall to 4-1-2.

Junior defender Matt Geswell (Carmel/Patterson, N.Y.) assisted all three Hobart goals with long throw-ins. The Statesmen got on the board in the 27th minute, as Geswell found senior defender Matt Schwartz (Lower Merion/Wynnewood, Pa.) with his first throw-in helper. The goal marked Schwartz's first of the season.

Hobart took a 2-0 lead at the 50 minute, 19 second mark. This time Geswell threw the ball in, and found senior midfielder Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) in front of the goal for his first score of the season.

First-year Nate Bechtold (Lockport/Lockport, N.Y.) recorded the third Statesmen goal of the day, and his first collegiate tally, in the 77th minute. Again, the assist was credited to Geswell.

Senior Statesmen goalie Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) collected three saves in his fourth shutout of the season. Rochester held an 11-3 advantage in total shots.

Hobart will open Liberty League play on Sept. 26, when it hosts Clarkson at 4 p.m. on Cozzens Field.
