No. 11 Herons remain perfect with 2-0 win at Vassar

DeKraker earns 41 career win, 11th shutout

Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The 11th-ranked William Smith field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 2-0 victory at Liberty League rival Vassar this afternoon. The Herons produced a pair of first half goals and did not allow the host Brewers to put a single shot on goal.

Senior goalie Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) moved into a second place tie with her 41st career win, matching Jen Kulesa's '93 total. DeKraker also moved into a tie for sixth place on the career shutouts list with her 11th.

The Herons (7-0, 1-0 Liberty) dominated the first half, opening the scoring in the 16th minute when junior midfielder Janelle Walkley (Tioga/Tioga Center, N.Y.) scored off a penalty corner, assisted by senior forward Kelsey Landahl (Pioneer/Delevan, N.Y.).

Junior forward Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) scored on a penalty stroke to double William Smith's lead, beating Vassar senior goalie Taylor Herman. Herman finished the match with 10 saves.

William Smith outshot Vassar (3-5, 0-1) 22-6, including 14-0 in the first half. The Herons also held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.

William Smith is back in action on Sept. 27, when the Herons visit Rensselaer at 2 p.m. The Red Hawks' web site will have Live Stats from the match.
