Nasypany leads #11 Herons past Saints

Box Score CANTON, N.Y.—Sophomore forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the game, as the 11th-ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated St. Lawrence 1-0 in Liberty League action this afternoon. The Herons improved to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the league, while handing the Saints (6-1-2, 0-1-1) their first loss of the season.

After nearly 79 minutes of scoreless, back-and-forth action, Nasypany finally broke through the defensive stalemate with her seventh goal of the year at the 78 minute, 17 second mark. She was assisted by junior midfielder Katelyn Tyson (Leland/San Jose, Calif.), who set her up for the shot from inside six yards.

William Smith held a slight 8-5 advantage in shots, and took seven corner kicks to the Saints' three.

First-year Heron goalkeeper Amanda Davis (Roxbury/Sucasunna, N.J.) recorded two saves in her first win of the season, while St. Lawrence goalie Abby Van Geldern also picked up two stops.

William Smith will be in action again on Oct. 4, when it travels to Clinton to take on Liberty League rival and sixth-ranked Hamilton at 1 p.m.
