GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College field hockey team slipped two spots in the national rankings to No. 13 following a 1-1 weekend. The Herons spent the past three weeks at No. 11 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
William Smith won its seventh consecutive game on Friday, defeating Vassar 2-0, but suffered its first defeat, 3-2 in overtime, at Rensselaer the following day. The Red Hawks debuted at No. 17 this week.
Offensively, the Herons are led by junior
Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.). She leads the Liberty League in goals (8) and points (18). Senior
Jamie Tucciarone (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) is tied for second in the conference with seven goals.
Defensively, senior goalie
Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) is the only backstop in the League with a goals against average below 1.00, sporting a 0.54 GAA.
William Smith (7-1, 1-1) is back in action on Oct. 1, when the Herons host Rochester (7-3, 1-1). The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on McCooey Field. Fans unable to attend the contest can follow along
