Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior
Dan Riso (Red Hook/Red Hook, N.Y.) provided the 18th-ranked Hobart College soccer team with all of the offense it needed to defeat Elmira College on Cozzens Field this afternoon. He scored the first two goals of the match as the Statesmen remained undefeated with a 3-1 victory over the Soaring Eagles.
In the 25th minute, first-year
Michael Moulton (Providence Country Day/Coventry, R.I.) sent a through ball from midfield that sprung Riso on a one-on-one with Elmira senior goalie Jon DePrimo (Southside/Elmira, N.Y.). As DePrimo began his slide toward Riso's feet, the striker simply touched the ball to one side and tapped home the only goal of the first half.
DePrimo finished with six saves, while senior
Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) turned back three shots for Hobart (4-0-0).
Riso doubled Hobart's advantage in the 58th minute, burying a shot from the six that was set up by a cross from classmate
Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen, Germany). Less than five minutes later, the Statesmen enjoyed a 3-0 lead thanks to first-year
Evan Grey's (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa, N.Y.) first collegiate tally.
Elmira (2-1-0) broke up the shutout in the 89th minute when first-year Jaffar Daly (Cardinal Spellman/Bronx, N.Y.) finished a long breakaway similar to Riso's first goal.
Hobart is back in action on Sept. 13, when the Statesmen travel to Brockport for a 1 p.m. match.
