Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team broke the school records for three-pointers made, but came out on the short end of a 110-108 double overtime decision against Union. Both teams put five players in double figures led by Statesmen sophomore guard Rob Estep's (West York/York, Pa.) career-high 39-point performance, which is tied for second on the school's single game list.

Hobart (5-11, 2-3 Liberty League) made 18 triples in the contest, two more than the 10-year old record set against Skidmore on Feb. 20, 1999. The Statesmen attempted 38 long-range shots, also a new standard. Estep was 13 of 23 from the floor, including six of 10 from behind the arc, and made all seven of his free throws. Sophomore guard Tim Llewellyn (West York/York, Pa.) added a double-double on 17 points and a game-high 10 assists, while also recording a game-high six steals. Sophomore guard Mark Bruce (Fairport/Fairport, N.Y.), sophomore forward Adam Salzmann (Kingston/Connelly, N.Y.), and first-year guard Greg Stern (Jamesville-DeWitt/Jamesville, N.Y.) added 15, 11, and 11 points, respectively.

Union (10-5, 3-2) finished with a 46-37 rebounding advantage and shot 55.9 percent from the floor. Senior forward Drew Desmarais (Smithtown/St. James, N.Y.) led the way with 27 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore forward Matt Covucci (Lourdes/LaGrangeville, N.Y.) also notched a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards. Junior guard Joey Lokitis (Phillips Academy/Norton, Mass.), sophomore guard Drew Goldstein (The Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.), and senior forward Nick Ciresi (Kings Park/Kings Park, N.Y.) contributed 21, 20, and 12 points, respectively.

Hobart needed a furious rally to force the first overtime. Over the final two minutes of regulation, the Statesmen went on a 15-4 run, capped by an Estep three with six seconds to go, to erase an 11-point Dutchmen lead. In fact, Estep scored Hobart's first 10 points of the surge and 13 of 15.

In the first extra session, the Statesmen grabbed the lead, 92-91 on a pair of free throws by first-year forward Matt Pebole (Red Bank/Little Silver, N.J.) and bumped their advantage to three on two freebies Estep with 23 ticks left. Lokitis forced the second overtime with a three at the 14 second mark. Hobart had the last chance in the stanza, but turned the ball over on a charge with 0.7 seconds remaining.

With the scored tied at 96-all early in the second OT, Union used an 11-2 run to build a nine-point seize control of the contest. Hobart ended the game on a 10-3 run, but never had a chance to tie or go ahead.

The game marks the highest combined point total in a Hobart game since Jan. 12, 2000, when Roberts Wesleyan topped Hobart 111-107 in double overtime.

The Statesmen begin a four-game road trip at Clarkson on Jan. 30. Tipoff against the Golden Knights is scheduled for 8 p.m. Union will return home to host Vassar at 8 p.m. on Jan. 30.
