Box Score The Hobart College hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley 8-4, on Veterans Recognition Day in The Cooler. The ninth-ranked Statesmen improved to 14-4-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the ECAC West, while the Dutchmen dropped to 0-18-0 on the year, 0-9-0 in the conference.
Sophomore forward
Pat Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) led Hobart with two goals and two assists, while sophomore forward
Matt Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) contributed a goal and two helpers, and junior defenseman
Dan Miller (Massena, N.Y.) added three assists. Junior forward
Bobby Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.), sophomore defenseman
Kyle Whitaker (Fort Wayne, Ind.), and first-year forward
Greg Ciciola (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each tallied a goal and an assist as well.
The Statesmen held a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period. Moriarty put the first point on the board on a power play in the ninth minute of action. Sophomore forwards
Jeremy Dwyer (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Daniel Organ (Simi, Calif.) added to the lead with tallies at 10:14 and 15:34, respectively.
Wallace netted another power play goal for the hosts 4:51 into the second stanza, but Lebanon Valley would answer with two goals in the ninth minute to cut Hobart's lead to 4-2. Dutchman Bert Malloy scored unassisted at the 8:25 mark, followed by Matthew Kisiday at 8:41.
Cahill and Ciciola responded for the Statesmen, giving their team a comfortable 6-2 advantage to start the third period. Cahill's power play goal at 12:04 was the eventual game-winner.
In the final period, Whitaker and Moriarty each tallied to ensure the victory for Hobart. The Dutchmen also scored twice more, thanks to power play goals from Sean Wilson and Matthew Becker.
Hobart first-year goaltender
Colin Saltiel (Melford, N.J.) stopped 18 shots to earn is third win of the season, while Rich Drazin collected 56 saves in net for Lebanon Valley.
The Statesmen will be back in action Jan. 30, when they travel to Utica for an ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
