Box Score UTICA, N.Y.—The ninth-ranked Hobart College hockey team shutout ECAC West foe Utica 4-0 tonight, marking the first time they have won at Utica since the 2001-02 season. The Statesmen notched three first-period goals to improve to 15-4-0 overall and 6-3-0 in the conference, while the Pioneers slipped to 9-7-2 on the season and 3-5-0 in the ECAC West.
Sophomore
Christopher Bower (Chevy Chase, Md.) put Hobart on the board 13 minutes, 40 seconds into the contest. He netted his third goal of the year on a power play, assisted by senior
Ryan Adler (Piscataway, N.J.) and junior
Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.).
The Statesmen quickly added to their lead with another power play goal from senior
Bryant Harris (Plainfield, N.H.) at 16:43, and a shorthanded tally from sophomore Daniel Organ (Simi, Calif.) at 18:03. Senior
Michael Steiner (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and junior
Aleksey Koval (Kiev, Ukraine) recorded assists on Harris' goal, while junior
Gregory Alberti (Bernardsville, N.J.) set up Organ's.
After a scoreless second period, Hobart lit the lamp one more time in the third. Sophomores
Tom Capalbo (Mamaroneck, N.Y.),
Pat Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.), and
Matt Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) teamed up for the insurance tally in the ninth minute.
The Statesmen held a slight 40-37 advantage in shots, and converted 2-of-6 power play opportunities.
Hobart senior goaltender
Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.) collected 37 saves en route to his first shutout and 12th win of the season, while Anthony Luckow and Justin Bolla combined to make 36 stops in net for Utica.
