Box Score CANTON, N.Y.--The Hobart basketball team ran into a buzz saw this afternoon in Berkman Gym. The host St. Lawrence Saints shot 52.5 percent from the floor and dominated the offensive and defensive glass on their way to an 88-73 victory over the Statesmen.
A 10-0 run early in the first half erased a one-point Hobart (6-12, 3-4) lead and put the Saints (13-4, 6-1) in front for good. Back-to-back threes by Garrett Sharlow (6 pts, 7 asst) closed out the surge giving St. Lawrence a 14-5 lead with 13:09 remaining in the first half.
Adam Salzmann scored on a pair of layups over the next minute to twice cut Hobart's deficit to seven, but the visitors got no closer. He finished the game with a team-high 11 points and four rebounds.
The Saints led by as many as 19 in the first half and ballooned their advantage to as many as 26 after the intermission. Tom Wopperer paced five St. Lawrence players in double figures with a game-high 16 points.
The Statesmen forced the Saints into 24 turnovers, enjoying a 29-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Hobart is back in action at 8 p.m. on Feb. 6, when the Statesmen visit Vassar.
