#9 Statesmen notch back-to-back shutouts vs. Pioneers

Box Score

UTICA, N.Y.—After defeating Utica 4-0 last night in Memorial Auditorium, the Hobart College hockey team shutout the Pioneers again tonight 6-0. With a four-goal effort in the third period, the ninth-ranked Statesmen improved to 16-4-0 on the season and 7-3-0 in the ECAC West. The Pioneers fell to 9-8-2 overall and 3-6-0 in the league.

Hobart senior goalie Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.) earned his Hobart record seventh career shutout after collecting 31 saves tonight. He also tied the record for shutouts in a season (2). Longo achieved the feat once before, with back-to-back shutouts against Wentworth and Williams in the 2005-06 season.

Sophomore Christopher Bower (Chevy Chase, Md.) led Hobart with two goals, while senior Andy Brennan (Milford, Mass.) and junior Bobby Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.) each added a goal and an assist.

Bower started the scoring for the Statesmen for the second night in a row with a power play goal 9 minutes, 57 seconds into the contest. Cahill and Brennan earned the assists on the lone goal of the first period.

Junior Gregory Alberti (Bernardsville, N.J.) added to Hobart's lead with an unassisted shorthanded tally at the 11:20 mark in the second period, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead at the start of the final stanza.

The Statesmen offense exploded for four goals in the third period, sparked by Brennan's second goal of the year at 11:57. Bower netted his second of the night a short time later, followed by goals from senior Jason Merritt (Chapel Hill, N.C.) with 3:28 remaining, and Cahill with 1 minute left.

The Statesmen held a narrow 35-31 advantage in shots, and went 1-for-4 on the power play.

Anthony Luckow and Justin Bolla split time in goal for Utica, combining for 29 stops.

Hobart will be back in action on Feb. 7, when the Statesmen travel to sixth-ranked Elmira for an ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
