Box Score WESTON, Mass.—In the consolation game of the Park Lodge Hotel Basketball Tournament, Wells slipped past Hobart 68-65. The Statesmen fall to 3-7, while the Express improves to 4-7.
Tightly contested, the score was tied 12 times while the lead changed hands 18 times. Wells enjoyed the largest lead of the day, 50-41, with 16:01 remaining, but Hobart used a 12-2 run to tie the score. Neither team led by more than three over the final 13 minutes.
The Statesmen's fortunes turned on an inopportune scoring drought. All-Tournament Team selection, sophomore guard
Rob Estep's (West York/York, Pa.) jumper with 5:59 remaining gave the Statesmen a 65-63 lead, but Hobart failed to convert any of its final eight shots from the floor. The Express' Juan Paulino scored the final five points of the game to give Wells the win.
Estep finished the day with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting and was joined in double figures by sophomore guard
Tim Llewellyn (West York/York, Pa.) and first-year forward
Matt Pebole (Red Bank/Little Silver, N.J.). Llewellyn had 18 points, four assists, and three steals, while Pebole chipped in 12 points.
Paulino, who also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, finished with a double-double of 22 points and 17 rebounds, both game-highs. The Express enjoyed a 35-20 rebounding advantage.
Hobart is back in action on Tues., Jan. 6, when the Statesmen visit Buffalo State. Tipoff for Hobart's final non-conference game of the season is scheduled for 8 p.m.
