The Hobart College soccer team moved up two spots to No. 17 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The Statesmen improved to 9-1-2 on the season after defeating two Liberty League foes over the weekend; St. Lawrence 4-3 and Clarkson 3-2 in double-overtime.
First-year midfielder
Will Abbott paced the Hobart offense, netting three-straight goals, and earning the Liberty League Rookie of the Week award for his efforts. He scored two second-half goals vs. the Saints, including the game-winner, and recorded the first goal vs. the Golden Knights the following day. Abbott currently leads the Statesmen in goals (5), assist (3), and points (13).
Junior midfielder
Kevin McCarthy was close behind Abbott this weekend, registering five points on a goal and three assists. He set up all three of Abbott's tallies, and netted a goal of his own at St. Lawrence. McCarthy now ranks fourth on the team with seven points.
Hobart, also ranked 16th in the latest D3soccer.com poll, will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 14, when the Statesmen travel to Ithaca (4-4-3) for a non-league match at 4 p.m. Fans unable to make it to the game can follow the action online with
