The William Smith College soccer team is ranked fifth in Division III, according to this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The Herons slipped one spot, after tying St. Lawrence 1-1 in double-overtime and defeating Clarkson 6-0 over the weekend. William Smith remains the top-ranked team in the East Region.
Junior
BreLynn Nasypany led the Herons last week, tallying a goal and three assists. She's notched at least one point in six of the last seven games she's played in. Nasypany ranks second in the Liberty League in game-winning goals (4), fourth in assists (5), and is tied for fifth in points (17) and goals (6).
Sophomore goalie
Amanda Davis was named the Liberty League's Defensive Performer of the Week for the third week in a row, after turning back eight of the nine shots she faced in two conference games. She picked up six saves against the Saints, and recorded two more vs. the Golden Knights. Davis ranks 16th in the nation and leads the Liberty League in goals against average (0.40), and ranks 18th in Division III and leads the conference in save percentage (.906). She also owns a league-best seven shutouts.
The Herons (9-2-1) are the eighth-ranked team in the country, according to the weekly D3soccer.com poll.
William Smith will be back in action Oct. 17, when the Herons travel to Oneonta (9-2-2) for a non-league contest at 2 p.m.
