Three members of the Hobart College hockey team were honored by the ECAC West for their performances in the opening weekend of competition. Junior forward
Christopher Bower was named the league's Player of the Week, while first-years
Nick Broadwater and
Chris Cannizzaro were tabbed the ECAC West Goalie and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Bower notched two goals and an assist in Hobart's 9-1 victory over Buffalo State on Saturday. He scored the first two goals of the night, including the eventual game-winner, and added a helper on the Statesmen's sixth goal.
Broadwater picked up 47 saves in his first two collegiate contests. He collected 20 stops in a 2-2 overtime tie at Buffalo State on Friday, and recorded 27 saves in Hobart's win vs. the Bengals the next night. For the weekend, he posted a .940 save percentage and a 1.45 goals against average.
A forward, Cannizzaro tallied two goals and a helper in his first weekend of collegiate competition. On Friday, he netted the game-tying goal with 48 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Saturday, he scored the first tally of a six-goal third period for the Statesmen, and added an assist.
The Statesmen currently hold a 1-0-1 overall record, and are the fifth-ranked team in Division III, according to the first USCHO.com poll of the season. Hobart will host Manhattanville in the first ECAC West contest for both teams, on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Fans unable to make it to The Cooler can listen live on
