Herons rank 14th in nation

The William Smith College soccer team is ranked 14th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The Herons, also ranked 14th in the nation according to the latest D3soccer.com poll, dropped two spots after tying Skidmore 0-0 in double-overtime and defeating Union 1-0 over the weekend.

With an unbeaten conference record, William Smith (10-3-2, 5-0-2 LL) has secured the top spot in the four-team Liberty League Tournament for the eighth time in program history. This is the Herons' third straight Liberty League regular season title, and their fourth in the past five years.

First-year forward Renee Jensen was responsible for the lone William Smith goal in the final weekend of Liberty League regular season action. In the 24th minute vs. the Dutchwomen, junior forward BreLynn Nasypany sent a lead pass up the middle for Jensen. Union's goalie came out to smother the attempt, but Jensen won the race to the ball and touched it in for her fifth goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Davis stopped six shots and recorded two shutouts on the weekend, picking up the Liberty League's Co-Defensive Performer of the Week award for her efforts. She leads the conference and ranks 13th in the nation in both goals against average (0.39) and save percentage (.903), and owns a league-best nine shutouts.

The Herons will wrap up their regular season schedule on Oct. 31, when they host RIT at 2 p.m. The Liberty League Tournament will begin on Nov. 4. William Smith will host fourth-seeded Union at 1:30 p.m., while No. 2 Skidmore will host No. 3 Hamilton at the same time.
